I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Write + Chromebook

Add a chrome book version of the app. This is the perfect platform for writing with long battery life and cheap hardware.

  2. Add an auto-correct feature

I'd like to have auto-correct features, such as starting each sentence with a capital letter and being able to define one's own auto-correct settings. In other text editors I use that latter option to automatically have double spaces replace by one space.

So to summarise, auto-correct will reduce the number of errors so we can focus on writing more productively.

  3. Turn off Style while working in Markdown.

While writing I get distracted with formatting and have thoroughly enjoyed using Write! to help with this problem. As I write in markdown, then hit enter to go to the next line the formatting autochanges to the style that is currently selected. I would like to have the option to turn this function off and on when needed. I find myself going off on formatting tangents while I write, much less frequently than when I was using office, but formatting tangents are the bain of my day to day writing rhythm. Thanks for the consideration.

  4. Enable split and merge documents

I'd like an option to split an existing document into two with a right click option to 'split here'. Everything below the current cursor location would become a new document, named as the original document, plus '-1'. Conversely, there could be a document merge option, where users could select two or more documents to merge with a right click command, or similar. Scrivener and Ulysses both have this feature and it's quite powerful.

  6. Autocomplete quotes

Much like how you can autocomplete single/double quotes and braces in programming tools, a quote autocomplete feature here would be extremely useful. Especially for folks who intend to use this for writing scripts where you use use quotes a lot (and that would be my primary use as well).

The desired behavior would be such that when you type a single/double quote, it automatically writes the second one and puts the cursor inbetween the two.

  8. Spell ckeck suggestions in context menu - common practice in other apps

In nearly all apps when your right click a misspelled word, the spelling suggestions show in the context menu that appears, on top of it in fact. In Write! it is very confusing to have to first click on the abc icon that appears below the word. Most of us are used to directly right clicking on the word, which is common practice in most apps (Word, LibreOffice, Google Docs, Scrivener and so on).

For me this is the only thing keeping me away from using Write! as my default writing app, because I waste too much time by mistakenly…

  9. Live preview Option... please!

    Hi,

As you can use Write! to do Markup it would be nice to have a Live Preview option to see how it is displaying. Check out the Brackets Editor Live Preview Extension here: https://github.com/gruehle/MarkdownPreview for some ideas how to get it working. Live preview for all work would be better. ;-)

  10. Being able to choose add-ons.

With all the updates you will be bringing it would be cool if we had the option to install only the things we wanted.

For example I may want to add the ability to add maths symbols to my Write! but I may not want other features such as other languages or having a whole list of fonts that I don't use. However other uses might want more fonts and might not want symbols so they could choose only to install fonts.

I think this would help to keep the UI clean and help save disk space and computer resources.

  12. Several ideas

I was really impressed when I found the app - it's awesome!

However, after extensive use over several days I've got some ideas to make it better (well, at least for me and other people used to take a lot of quick notes and writing long articles in Markdown). Some of them are already mentioned by other users, I've added my votes to them.

So, I'd like to list all the ideas I came up with.

    1. Work with text files with different extensions (txt, md, mdown, any other, for example, .notes or .tasks)

    - use "Always open this type…

  14. Readability and grammar metrics

Measurement and suggestions for readability/grammar checking (Flesch-Kincaid, Gunning Fog index etc). Highlight parts-of-speech e.g. 'show all adverbs' etc. Online examples for inspiration would include prowritingaid.com, hemingwayapp.com, grammarly.com

  16. Corkboard/ Outlining Tool and Note Taking Tool

I would really love to see a corkboard or outliner like Scrivener's and a note taking tool like Zim's Quick Note Plugin. Here's a good description of how Zim's Quick Note plugin works for those not familiar (taken from https://ajy.co/linux/zim-desktop-wiki-more-than-taking-notes-part-1/):

"Quick Note - Lets you pop up a "Quick Note" window that will automatically insert text into one of your notes. Here's how I use it: I am reading a blog post on the web, and I see some code or information I want to remember. I select it with my mouse to highlight it, then I hit a…

  19. Thematic breaks, horizontal rules

Let us create horizontal lines to separate multiple paragraphs with two different widths, like in Word (as in, "---" and "___").
